JUDr. Matúš Gémeš

Founder | Managing partner

Matúš started his legal career after graduating from the University of Matej Bel in Banská Bystrica in 2000. He was admitted to the Slovak Bar Association in 2004 and in 2007 established his own law firm. In December 2015, he was the first attorney from the V4 countries to be admitted to the list of Euro-attorneys of the Liechtenstein Bar Association. He has resided in the Principality of Liechtenstein since 2016, where he has been practicing law as the managing partner of BOOM & SMART and fulfilling its vision of providing boutique legal services at the international level.

Matúš is a strong, focused, and determined leader with a creative vision to provide clients with innovative solutions for their needs. Together with his team, he focuses on solutions related to protection and management of private and family wealth, investment law, regulation of collective investment schemes and their managers, law on securities and securitization of assets. In 2017, Matúš was granted permission by the Financial Market Authority of the Principality of Liechtenstein to become a president and CEO of a licensed asset management company, Trinity Partners AG.

JUDr. Martina Filipová, PhD.

Managing Partner

Martina has been with the AKMG law firm, now Boom & Smart, since her graduation from Matej Bel University in 2009. After having been registered as a lawyer in the Slovak Bar Association, she became the firm’s Managing Partner in 2013. With the expansion of legal activities beyond Slovakia, she was registered among resident European lawyers under the Liechtenstein Bar Association in 2015.

During her extensive career, Martina has gained a good deal of expertise in various fields of law with emphasis placed on constitutional law, competition law, tax law and transaction legal counselling including cross-border mergers of business entities and business asset deals. For the last six years, Martina has dealt with counselling in the field of state aid schemes and has advised various governing bodies and authorities in granting of non-repayable financial aid from EU funds. When finding a solution to a client’s needs, she uses an individualized approach involving a complex strategy.

Martina is an expert in the field of foreign legal matters – international private and procedural law as well as European Law and is registered as an expert witness under the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic. In Jun 2024, she completed her postgraduate studies in international law at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava.

At present, Martina is Managing Partner with Boom & Smart and is responsible for managing and developing activities of the company within Slovakia.

JUDr. Veronika Barková, PhD.

Senior Associate

Veronika is an attorney registered with the Slovak Bar Association. Thanks to her many years of law practice, she has gained experience in the areas of civil and corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, and due diligence. She specialises in cross-border equity and asset deals, with an emphasis on financial and tax aspects of transactions. She deals with regulations in the area of collective investment schemes and activities of asset managers. She also provides counselling and support to clients in the area of Anti-Money-Laundering compliance as well as KYC regulations within complex multinational structures.

Additionally, Veronika is an expert witness in the field of foreign legal matters – international private and procedural law, as well as European Law and is registered as an expert witness under the Ministry of Justice of the Slovak Republic. In Jun 2024, she completed her postgraduate studies in international law at the Law Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava.

Veronika has also been handling litigation cases as well as cross-border arbitration. Her success is a result of her great sense to detail and logical thinking. Her global expertise is of interest to clients who are entering into international legal relations.

Veronika has been with AKMG, now Boom & Smart, since 2013 and acts as proxy of the company organizational unit in Slovakia and manages the Bratislava branch.

JUDr. Andrej Vilhan

Associate

Andrej graduated from the Law Faculty of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica in 2009. From February 2010 until June 2013, he was listed in the Register of Trainee Lawyers of the Slovak Bar Association where he not only gained experience with dispute and alternative resolution procedures, but was also actively involved in bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings and preparation of restructuring documentation.

Since July 2013, Andrej has been registered as a lawyer in the Slovak Bar Association. He first specialised in commercial law, especially dispute resolution procedures, where he represented clients in various litigation and enforcement proceedings.

In 2016, Andrej became a member of a middle-sized law office and was eventually promoted as Senior Lawyer of the litigation department. He also began participating in acquisition projects and was engaged in various asset and share deals.

Andrej joined the team of AKMG law office in September 2019 before the rebranding to Boom & Smart.

JUDr. Ing. Katarína Kadúchová

Associate

While studying law, Katarína simultaneously received her economics degree from the Pan European University in 2010. During her studies, she worked at the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, where she focused on European law and EU funding schemes.

After completing her law studies in 2013 at the University of Matej Bel, she joined the AKMG law firm, now Boom & Smart, where she continues to work as a trainee admitted to the Slovak Bar Association. In Jun 2024 Katarina successfully passed the bar exams. Katarina works mainly with civil law, administrative law, EU and constitutional law. She is an expert in energy law and energy derivatives and passionate about litigation, where she has already successfully represented clients in over one hundred court proceedings. Katarina also has experience in the field of state aid schemes as well as expertise with legal counselling for governing bodies with regard to subventions from EU funds.

She is a willing team player with remarkable logic and by combining her knowledge of both law and economics, she develops sophisticated and complex solutions which create a unique added value.

JUDr. Zuzana Tavačiaková

Associate

Zuzana managed to acquire a great deal of work experience through her internship at the District Court in Žilina where she dealt with cases related to debt collection and civil proceedings during her university studies. At the same time, she also worked as a legal assistant in a law firm specialising in bankruptcy law.

After completing her university studies in 2016, Zuzana joined the AKMG law firm, now Boom & Smart, where she continues to work as a trainee admitted to the Slovak Bar Association. In October 2023 she successfully passed the bar exams.

In her practice, Zuzana specialises in the field of competition law for clients acting in the position of public contractors as well as competitors. Thanks to her creative thinking, she is capable of finding an optimal legal solution to meet the clients’ needs.

In addition, Zuzana deals with litigation with a concentration  in the field of energy and civil law. She is also interested in legal counselling in the area of tax law where she has already gained substantial experience representing clients before tax authorities and in administrative court proceedings.

JUDr. Radim Kochan, PhD.

Lawyer

Radim graduated from the Law Faculty of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica in 2008 and immediately started working as a lawyer with the steel company, Železiarne Podbrezová. From 2010 to 2018, he worked as Head of Human Resources where he also specialised in the field of preparing guidelines for company departments and its subsidiaries. In addition, he was appointed as Data Protection Officer in 2013.

In 2014, Radim completed his postgraduate studies in Employment and Labour Law at Trnava University.

In 2018, Radim joined AKMG, now Boom & Smart, where he specialises in labour law (including litigation) and personal data protection. He is responsible for drafting documentation for both individual as well as collective employment relations. He prepares internal directives and guidelines for corporate clientele and in his statements and analysis, he prefers solutions which prevent disputes. Thanks to many years of experience, Radim has become a personal data protection expert.

JUDr. Ivana Siegl

Associate

Ivana gained work experience in various areas, including her internship at the Official Receiver’s Office in Banská Bystrica during her university studies at the Law Faculty of Matej Bel University.  Upon completion in 2017, she worked as a judicial clerk in the District Court in Banská Bystrica in the debt recovery and collection department.

Ivana joined  AKMG, now Boom & Smart,  in December 2017 as Junior Lawyer. In November 2023 she successfully passed the bar exams.

In her practice, Ivana focuses on civil, commercial and administrative law as well as in debt collection. She also deals with transaction counselling in mergers and acquisitions with a focus on due diligence and processing and annotating agreements in the field of commercial law. Furthermore, Ivana also works with litigation and in the field of energy industries and damage liabilities.

She speaks Slovak and English.

JUDr. Diana Nikoliny

Junior Lawyer

Diana gained work experience in various areas during her studies, including her work as a legal assistant in an international law firm and her internship at the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic. After completing her studies at the Faculty of Law of Comenius University in 2022, Diana joined Boom & Smart, where she continues to work as a trainee admitted to the Slovak Bar Association. She is planning to take her bar examinations in 2026.

In her practice, Diana focuses on corporate law, corporate transactions, M&A, civil law, insolvency proceedings, employment relationships and regulatory law.

She speaks Slovak, English and French.
